I have just signed a national grassroots-led petition opposing Obama's coming amnesty push. If allowed to go unchecked and unchallenged, Obama will throw open the door for widespread amnesty--forcing you and I to pay for their benefits--benefits once reserved only for citizens and legal aliens!

I told McCain/Obama: 'I Object!'
I just signed a Citizen Letter opposing the appearances by John McCain and Barack Obama before a group called "La Raza," which is Spanish for "The Race." La Raza has pushed for the rights of illegal aliens and given legitimacy to radical, anti-American ideals.
Please join me in this Citizen Letter of protest by going here:

San Francisco a Sanctuary city?
As reported by Grassfire today:
Dear Robert,
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom is launching an $83,000
outreach campaign designed to attract illegal aliens.
Using television, radio, posters and brochures
in five different languages, Newsom says, "We're
going to spend resources, time and energy to do
PSA's, to do campaign outreach into community clinics,
into public schools, into our police stations to
let people know what a sanctuary city is all about...
Newsom says illegal aliens answering his call need not fear
deportation. "We are doing the right thing," he said.
Robert, this arrogant thumbing of the nose by SF City
officials to the established laws of our land and the blatant
disrespect for those citizens who will be required to foot
the bill for these illegals is reprehensible, and demands
a strong reaction!
That's why I'm asking ALL members of our Grassfire team to take
a few minutes to contact Mayor Gavin Newsom and City Supervisor
Tom Ammiano.
++Action Item--Contact SF City Leadership
Mayor Gavin Newsom
phone: 415-554-6141
Email: gavin.newsom@sfgov.org
Tom Ammiano, City Supervisor
phone: 415-554-5144
Email: tom.ammiano@sfgov.org
Please contact both of these city leaders and express your
outrage over their public outreach effort welcoming illegal aliens.
Let them know that their plan is a "ringing dinner bell" that
will attract even more illegals--increasing the burden for
those living in San Francisco legally!
Urge them to do the right thing by enforcing our laws.
My e-mail to the Mayor of San Francisco:
Mayor Gavin Newsom,
I read today that you are undertaking an effort to turn San Francisco into a "Sanctuary City" for illegal aliens.
It's sad to learn that yet another government official is ignoring the rule of law in support of illegal aliens. I have to wonder "what's in it for you"? Given the exceptionally high costs involved, and the strain on law enforcement that this causes, you would have to be getting something in return.
I'm glad to hear that you have gone public with this. That way the law abiding citizens of you city can "get out" before their property values drop so low that they can't afford to leave. I'm sure that they will, given that they will have no interest in funding your illegal activities. The most "well to do" citizens (the ones that pay the highest taxes!) will be the first to go, as they typically have the most liquidity. As time continues, more and more tax payers will leave for other cities that follow the rule of law. Eventually, San Francisco will suffer the same fate as Detroit, MI, and be only a skeleton of what it once was. In the end, only the criminals will remain, of course, that includes the members of government that thought this was the "right thing".
My final question to you: Should this be a country in which every person learns to work, every person learns to save, every person learns to have a better future, and, by the way, is therefore responsible for working, saving, and creating a better future? Or is this a country where you shouldn't have to do all those things because it's too hard, and someone should take care of you? In which case, the question becomes: who's the someone, and why do you think they'll stay here?
Regards,
-Bob
Let your voice be heard!

Still no fence?
Interesting, and this is only one State... If this doesn't open your eyes nothing will!
From the L. A. Times:
- 40% of all workers in L. A. County ( L. A. County has 10.2 million people) are working for cash and not paying taxes. This is because they are predominantly illegal immigrants working without a green card.
- 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.
- 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.
- Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal , whose births were paid for by taxpayers.
- Nearly 35% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally.
- Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.
- The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.
- Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.
- 21 radio stations in L. A. are Spanish speaking.
- In L. A. County 5.1 million people speak English, 3.9 million speak Spanish. (There are 10.2 million people in L. A. County.)
(All 10 of the above are from the Los Angeles Times)
Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops, but 29% are on welfare.
Over 70% of the United States' annual population growth (and over 90% of California, Florida , and New York) results from immigration.
29% of inmates in federal prisons are illegal aliens.
We are a bunch of fools for letting this continue.
You and I are a bunch of fools for letting this continue.

Tough vote choices today?
| |||||||||
| What to do if stopping illegal immigration is really important in the next President? | |||||||||
| HAPPY SUPER TUESDAY, FRIENDS, While I was donating blood to the Red Cross earlier tonight, a 19-year-old at the cookie table spoke with a quiet pride about having just pumped his 5th pint and how doing that and voting were really fulfilling ways to show his patriotism. I assume most of you will shed no blood today, but I hope you will go the extra patriotic mile to be sure to ...
However you decide to vote, I'm sure America will be better off if there is a really tremendous turnout by all of you who understand the immigration issues and know where the candidates stand on them. (Check out the stances here.) WHICH STRATEGY FOR IMMIGRATION VOTING TODAY? Those voting in the Democratic Primaries face no significant difference between Sen. Obama and Sen. Clinton on immigration issues. But those of you voting in the Republican Primaries are telling me of the following ways you plan to vote:
|
| ||||||||
| HOLD 'McCAIN=AMNESTY' SIGNS OUTSIDE POLLING SITES You will know where the legal line is by where all the other people are standing to hand out literature. Simply click on this (adjust colors and sizes as you wish), print it and hold it up for voters to see as they arrive at the polls. Vote first and then donate 15 minutes, 30 minutes or an hour of your time to holding the sign to make sure voters are educated about McCain's very clear promise to give amnesty to illegal aliens. Here's the link to the simple sign. You may also want to print out McCain immigration grade cards from www.NumbersUSA.com website -- and other accounts of McCain's immigration actions. IF YOU WANT TO VOTE TO KEEP McCAIN FROM GETTING DELEGATES IN YOUR STATE ... It would seem to be a significant victory if McCain can be stopped from getting any more than 700 of the more than 1,000 delegates at stake today. That (combined with the nearly 100 he already has) would leave him at least 400 short of the 1,191 needed to secure the GOP nomination. A major victory would be to keep him below 600. That would give anti-amnesty forces some time in the remaining Primary states to better educate Republican voters about Sen. McCain's stated commitment to giving amnesty to at least 10 million illegal aliens and to dramatically increasing the importation of foreign workers to compete with American workers. Keeping McCain's wins under 600 -- or even under 700 -- is going to be tough because polls show McCain with overwhelming leads in winner-take-all states of New York (101 delegates), New Jersey (52) and Connecticut (30). This next section is highly controversial because every Republican and Democratic candidate has support among a segment of you getting this email. Please understand that I am making no endorsements here. But what I am doing is showing you what you would do if your top priority today is to keep pro-amnesty McCain from getting delegates. Paul, Huckabee and Romney have all made explicit promises to oppose legalization (amnesty) of illegal aliens and to use an Attrition Through Enforcement policy that drives illegal aliens back to their home countries. (Nearly all of the surveys listed below were taken over the weekend.) If you are willing to switch your vote from your favorite candidate to a candidate best able to defeat McCain today, you might: VOTE FOR RON PAUL in ....

Amnesty vote Tuesday in Illinois (and 21 other states)
From the Desk of:
Steve Elliott, President, Grassfire.org Alliance
Tomorrow's primary amounts to the equivalent of an amnesty vote. Please forward this message to your friends.
--Steve
Robert,
Tomorrow, Illinois citizens will have the opportunity to go to the polls in what amounts to the first-ever National Primary involving 22 states.
This vote will be a major referendum on the issue of Amnesty, which has been one of the top issues discussed during the primary season.
In essence, tomorrow's vote is an Amnesty vote, just as important as last summer's defeat of the Senate Amnesty Bill.
Every G.O.P. debate has featured immigration. Every time citizens have had an opportunity to pose questions of the candidates, immigration and amnesty have been at the top of the list.
But all that really matters to the politicians and the pundits is how we vote!
That is why I am encouraging every Grassfire.org team member to take two actions today:
- Vote Tuesday! - Since you live in one of the Super Tuesday states, be sure to go to the polls and vote for candidates who share your views on immigration and amnesty. Grassfire.org has developed Amnesty Voter Guide resources for you -- including briefings on all the G.O.P. candidates. Go here: http://www.AmnestyVoterGuide.com?rid=10699591
- Forward this message to your friends - Please send this message to your entire personal email list and ask your friends in the Super Tuesday states to use our Amnesty Voter Guide resources and then vote for candidates who share their views on immigration and amnesty.
Again, Tuesday's vote amounts to an amnesty vote, just as important as last summer's amnesty showdown over the Senate amnesty bill.
Thank you for taking action.
Steve Elliott, President

Stop McCain Amnesty on Tuesday
Everyone,
We certainly don't want to have to choose between two amnesty favoring liberals in November! The best way to prevent that from happening is to take McCain out of the running now!

| Will you allow the McCain amnesty to be endorsed in Tuesday's elections? | |||||||||
| DEAR OPPONENTS OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, Remember how desperate all of us felt just before those key votes in 2006 and 2007 on John McCain's amnesties? But we defied the predictions by massively reacting and blocking the efforts by Sen. McCain and Sen. Kennedy to permanently give American jobs to millions of illegal aliens while enticing millions more to enter! We can do it again. Will you make it happen? (See suggestions below.) Half of you will be able to vote on Tuesday. And the other half of you can try to influence people in the states where the primaries are being held. The Super Tuesday Presidential Primaries have become another amnesty vote. Throughout the campaign, Sen. McCain has said that he will legalize all illegal aliens who have not committed a felony. Between 10 and 18 million illegal aliens would qualify for his amnesty. If McCain wins the Republican nomination, most of the media have indicated they will interpret that as a vote for McCain's pro-illegal-immigration policies. That may even embolden Congress to try again to pass an amnesty THIS year. I'm sure you understand the urgency. Why am I asking you to forward this to everybody? Because the polls show that most Republicans who have been voting for McCain in the previous primaries are so uninformed that they think he would be TOUGH on illegal immigration. McCain has confused voters by:
With Sen. Obama and Sen. Clinton also pledging full commitment to amnesties, a McCain nomination would mean immigration would be removed as an issue from the fall campaign. If you are a Democrat and likely to vote for Obama or Clinton because of other issues, you will still want to see them moderate their immigration views toward the American majority's anti-amnesty position. That Democratic moderation could happen if Clinton or Obama had to compete with an anti-amnesty Republican. But I can't see that happening if they are competing with McCain. If you are a Republican, you will simply want to save your Party from continuing the disastrous immigration policies of the Bush Administration. If you are an Independent, consider voting in the Republican primary to cast your vote against the McCain amnesty. Don't take my word for how bad a McCain victory would be. Look below for the unadulterated facts about McCain's past immigration actions. Can you help rescue America from immigration disaster again on Super Tuesday? The immigration crisis on Tuesday is no less threatening to America than during those intense battles in 2006 and 2007 when we blocked one amnesty after another. A McCain victory would seem to ensure that no matter who wins in November we will have four more years of the same immigration nightmares we've had under Pres. Bush. Democratic voters have had no choice because all their candidates support amnesty. But Republican voters have a clear choice between the pro-amnesty McCain and the anti-amnesty Romney, Huckabee and Paul. Rather than split the anti-amnesty vote among three candidates, you may want to consider voting for whichever anti-amnesty candidate is reported to be highest in your state's polls on Monday, so as to increase the chance of denying delegates to McCain. . |
| ||||||||
| 1. WHAT YOU CAN DO TO PREVENT AMNESTY DISASTER ON TUESDAY 1. Make plans now on how and when you will vote on Tuesday (if you are in one of the Primary states). If you have any questions about where to go, ask a friend at church, in your neighborhood or at work. With McCain in the lead in most states, anybody who fails to vote is, in effect, voting for the McCain Amnesty. 2. Phone your friends. Make a list of up to ten or more friends and family members whom you believe will be interested to know that the leading candidates for both major parties favor amnesty. Set aside a block of time to call them. For your convenience, print this page and check off each action as you go. 3. Forward this email to every email address you have. Polls show that on average four out of five people to whom you send this will be opposed to an amnesty. You don't want any of them to miss the central truth that McCAIN = AMNESTY. Factoring in that some people won't see this email in time and that many of you will have overlapping email lists but also that many of you have email lists running in the hundreds, I am going to assume that each of the half-million of you on average is going to forward to 10 distinct voters and that each of them on average will forward to 5 on average and that each of them will forward to 2 on average. That would be: 500,000 X 10 ------- 5 million X 5 --------- 25 million X 2 --------- 50 million If we can get this truth about McCain's pro-illegal-immigration positions to 50 million voters before Tuesday (even if half of them don't have Primaries until later), I believe we have an excellent chance of slowing down the McCain Amnesty Express. You all have done this before when we stopped an amnesty in Congress. Won't you do it now!!! 4. Use your influence and talk about the information in this email at any meetings or gatherings you attend between now and Tuesday. Perhaps 130 million Americans will spend three hours watching the Super Bowl on Sunday. I don't resent them (you) the entertainment. But can we all covenant to spend at least 30 minutes before Tuesday in forwarding this email and making some phone calls to protect our entire quality of life from the congestion, the tax costs, the wage depression of tens of millions of additional foreign workers and dependents? McCAIN'S PAST IMMIGRATION ACTIONS TO SUPPORT ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION In just the past four years, John McCain has taken the following actions to support illegal immigration:
AT THE MOMENT, REPUBLICAN VOTERS SEEM PERCHED TO REWARD THIS BEHAVIOR WITH A NOMINATION FOR PRESIDENT. IF YOU THINK OTHERWISE, PLEASE TAKE PART IN THE ACTIONS NOTED ABOVE. THANKS, | |||||||||

Dream Amnesty Act vote tomorrow
From Grassfire.org Alliance:
Key Amnesty Vote tomorrow. Forward to friends.
Harry Reid has scheduled a cloture vote on the Dream Amnesty Act for TOMORROW (Wednesday).
This comes after citizens like you again shut down switchboards in opposition to the Dream Act when it was pushed as an amendment last week.
Now, Durbin and Reid are pushing the Dream Amnesty Act straight to the Senate floor as a stand-alone bill -- S. 2205 -- despite overwhelming grassroots opposition!
But to rush the bill directly to the floor, they must pass a "cloture" vote first.
Robert, we simply must stop this latest effort to sneak an amnesty bill through the Senate. These are the same tricks Reid tried to use this summer to pass the Bush-Kennedy bill.
+ + Action Item #1 -- Fax Reid, Durbin and your senators
We need thousands of faxes immediately headed to Reid's office, Durbin's office, your two Senators and other key senators.
Go here to schedule your faxes:
http://www.grassfire.org/22042/offer.asp?rid=14158802
(As always, we have posted sample letters and the fax numbers if you prefer to send your own faxes.)
+ + Action Item #2 -- Call, Call, Call!
We simply must shut down the switchboards today and tomorrow. Every Senator needs to get thousands of calls. Please call your two Senators today and tomorrow, as well as these key senators:
Sen. Durbin 202-224-2152
Sen. Obama 202-224-2854Key Senators:
Durbin (Asst. Maj. Leader) -- 202-224-2152
Reid (Maj. Leader)-- 202-224-3542
Shelby (AL)-- 202-224-5744
Hagel (co-sponsor) 202-224-4224
Lugar (co-sponsor) 202-224-4814
Brownback (KS) 202-224-6521
Grassley (IA) 202-224-3744
Lott (MS) 202-224-6253
Cochran (MS) 202-224-5054
Hutchison (TX) 202-224-5922
Byrd (WV) 202-224-3954
Our staff has compiled a list of all the Senators who currently have "no position" on this bill. Go here:http://www.firesociety.com/blog/107/17693/?src=111
+ + Talking Points
- I oppose the DREAM Act because it provides amnesty to illegal aliens and their families.
- I urge the Senator to vote "NO" on cloture for S. 2205. This amnesty bill should not be brought to the Senate floor.
- A "yes" vote on cloture will be considered a "yes" vote for amnesty.
We simply cannot allow Reid and Durbin to sneak this bill through the Senate. Thanks for your immediate action.
Steve Elliott, President
Grassfire.orgP.S. Please forward this message to friends who share your concern for our nation's illegal invasion crisis.

Dream Act defeated, for now
I just heard from Grassfire.org's Steve Elliott that our efforts to
defeat the "Dream Act" have paid off. See Steve's Blog for the details.
The fight isn't over, based on comments from Senate Majority Leader
Harry Reid, bristling over the defeat, said the battle is "still on"
promising passage this Fall!
Stay tuned for updates...

Illinois' tricky Dick
Check this out. I wrote to our US Senator, Dick Durbin, regarding recent legislation he is sponsoring: http://durbin.senate.gov/showRelease.cfm?releaseId=280889
This back door amnesty program is supposedly "for the children". I wrote to him (http://durbin.senate.gov/contact.cfm) asking for him to explain why certain criminals needed preferential treatment and why was I going to be forced to pay for it. Here was his response (it's difficult reading, he really need to learn how to break up paragraphs):
September 21, 2007
Thank you for contacting me about the education of immigrant children. I appreciate hearing from you. I understand your concern about the cost of attending colleges and universities. Federal student aid is based on financial need and allocated to students to ensure that those from working families are not denied access to college because of income. Throughout my service in Congress, I have supported initiatives that would help make college more affordable, including increasing the amount of money available through Pell Grants and providing tax relief that will help families and students pay for college. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to work to fund federal student aid programs. Graduation from high school is an important milestone in life, with many graduates then looking forward to college. Some children do not have the chance to attend college and reach their full potential because they are undocumented. Most of these children were brought to the United States when they were very young and did not have the opportunity to make an independent decision about where they would live. They grew up here, went to school here, and want to be productive members of our society. In 2003, I joined Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah in introducing the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act (DREAM Act). I have introduced similar legislation in the 110th Congress and it has been referred to the Judiciary Committee for review. The DREAM Act would enable undocumented immigrants to earn the right to apply for legal residency by allowing them to apply for conditional resident status and apply for college on the same terms as other students if they 1) have lived in the U.S. for at least five years; 2) have attended school in our country and graduated from high school; and 3) are of good moral character. This measure would not provide any financial aid to any student. It would allow these students to apply for federal student assistance, while requiring the eligible students to go through the same process as any other student applying for federal financial aid and holding them to the same standards. They would have the opportunity to remove the conditional nature of their resident status by acquiring a college degree, successfully attending at least two years of college, or serving honorably in the Armed Forces for at least two years. Finally, this bill would enable states to determine their own residency rules regarding the tuition rate for undocumented immigrant children at state colleges and universities. This approach would not affect colleges' admission rules. Immigrants affected by the legislation would have to demonstrate their academic eligibility and merit. Furthermore, Urban Institute and U.S. Census figures show that undocumented immigrant children who meet the criteria spelled out in this measure represent less than two percent of all high school graduates each year. Some opponents of this legislation suggest that it would encourage illegal immigration. No studies have shown a connection between illegal immigration and access to college education in this country. Throughout my service in Congress, I have supported efforts to deter illegal immigration. I have voted for measures to reduce illegal immigration by providing additional Border Patrol agents and giving the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) more authority to investigate illegal alien smuggling. I also voted in favor of the USA PATRIOT Act, which tripled the number of agents along our northern border and strengthened the standards for the issuance of visas. Legislation enabling undocumented children to apply for college and financial aid will benefit our nation. Current law deprives us of future leaders, increased tax revenues, economic growth, and social vibrancy. We suffer because vulnerable children who might have become scientists, nurses, teachers, or engineers are forced, instead, to settle for the more limited employment options available to those without a college degree. Worse, guidance counselors report that many promising students drop out of school once they realize that, as a practical matter, they will be unable to go to college. I hope this letter helps you understand why I support the DREAM Act. I appreciate having your views. Thanks again for your message. Sincerely, Richard J. Durbin United States Senator RJD/tf P.S. If you are ever visiting Washington, please feel free to join Senator Obama and me at our weekly constituent coffee. When the Senate is in session, we provide coffee and donuts every Thursday at 8:30 a.m. as we hear what is on the minds of Illinoisans and respond to your questions. We would welcome your participation. Please call my D.C. office for more details.
Of course, I had to reply. Here is my response:
In response to you your e-mail to me on 9/21/2007:
First, you started off your response by incorrectly stating: "Thank you for contacting me about the education of immigrant children."
This statement is simply wrong, I wrote to you about giving preferential treatment to criminals. It has nothing to do with "the education of immigrant children". Immigrant children are the children of immigrants, not the children of criminals that have broken into our country. That is why we use the term "Illegal Alien” to describe this type of criminal.
You then made the statement: "Some children do not have the chance to attend college and reach their full potential because they are undocumented."
Exactly how is this my fault? Why should I have to pay for it? Is it not their parents that decided become criminals by breaking into our country? Using the term “undocumented” to try to water down the subject accomplishes nothing. They are still criminals.
You go to mention: "The DREAM Act would enable undocumented immigrants to earn the right to apply for legal residency by allowing them to apply for conditional resident status and apply for college on the same terms as other students if they 1) have lived in the U.S. for at least five years; 2) have attended school in our country and graduated from high school; and 3) are of good moral character."
So, in the first two conditions, you are looking to allow only the better (more skilled) criminals? Like the ones that have managed to hide from INS for at least five years? And the ones that have somehow managed to avoid INS again and graduate from high school? Since when are Illegal Aliens admitted to public school? How long have I been paying for that? So, once you find some really skilled criminals, you then apply the third test: “are of good moral character”. In the eyes of the law (which what you trying to make here), how exactly is this measured? Also, if they passed the first two tests, haven't they, by default of being criminals, failed the the third test?
You then state: “Furthermore, Urban Institute and U.S. Census figures show that undocumented immigrant children who meet the criteria spelled out in this measure represent less than two percent of all high school graduates each year.”
Aren't you misusing the term “undocumented” here? This appears to indicate that these criminals are “documented”. If they were “undocumented”, exactly how are they being measured? It also appears that we have official systems in place to “look the other way” when these criminals are detected. Is not the act of “looking the other way” criminal in itself? What is being done about this? Also, if we know that 2% (or more) of high school graduates are Illegal Aliens, isn't 2% of the money I pay to support public education being used to fund illegal activities? As far as I know, knowingly funding criminal activity is in itself a crime. How do I go about making myself legal again by not paying for the 2% (or more) that I am currently being forced to pay? How do I get my government stop forcing me to be a criminal too (by forcing me to fund this type of illegal activity)? Is that not a criminal act on the part of the government as well?
Next you state: “Throughout my service in Congress, I have supported efforts to deter illegal immigration.“
Exactly how would this effort “deter illegal immigration”? On the contrary, this legislation appears to very much support “illegal immigration”. This appears to indicate that you no longer support efforts to deter illegal immigration. Exactly how does this benefit you? It clearly does not benefit our country.
Finally you state: “I also voted in favor of the USA PATRIOT Act, which tripled the number of agents along our northern border and strengthened the standards for the issuance of visas."
I did not realize that you had been that worried about the Canadians until know. Help me understand this, since when has our “northern border” been the primary point of entry for illegal aliens? You statement appears to completely avoid the real issue here. What is being done to secure the all of our borders, including the one you appear to be avoiding, the southern border. I forgot, your against “the fence”. Why exactly did you avoid mentioning the southern border?
How is breaking into my country different than breaking into my house? I would assume that you would have no problems prosecuting a criminal that breaks into my house. Why is breaking into my country any different? Do you have something to gain from these criminal activities that your not telling us about? Please come clean here.

Petition to stop the North American Union
Momentum is building in our government to create the "framework"
for a North American Union that would undermine our nation's
sovereignty and open our borders.
I just signed an important citizen petition opposing these latest
efforts. Please go here to sign:

Mr. President: Secure our borders
I just signed a petition with Liberty Counsel urging the President to take immediate action to address our nation's current immigration crisis. Namely, to secure our borders and to oppose an immigration plan that gives amnesty to illegal aliens.
Please go here to join me in signing:

Amnesty gang bending Senate rules to pass bill
The Amnesty gang is still at it. They appear to want amnesty for illegals at any cost. From Grassfire.org:
The Senate is committed to formally bringing back the Bush-Kennedy amnesty bill possibly as early as this Friday--meaning we may have precious time remaining to make our voices heard!
Here's what our insiders are telling us...
The Amnesty Gang (including Bush, Kennedy, McCain, Kyl, and Reid) will introduce a new bill as a "substitute" of the last failed bill. This allows them to bring the bill to the Senate floor without going through committee -- just like the first Bush-Kennedy amnesty bill.
This is where it gets shadowy. Harry Reid will employ what is being called the "clay pigeon" procedure whereby all the amendments are lumped together as one to limit the ability of opposition to resist the bill!
What does all this mean?
It means that you and I and the rest of the citizens of our nation have been sold out by an arrogant Senate that has completely lost touch with the American people. Just listen to the bristling arrogance of Senate Minority leader (and Amnesty Senator from Mississippi) Trent Lott, who spoke to reporters yesterday. "I've had my phones jammed for three weeks. Yesterday I had three people answering them continuously all day. To think that you're going to intimidate a senator or any senator into voting one way or the other by gorging your phones with phone calls -- most of whom don't even know where Gulfport, Mississippi, is -- is not an effective tactic. But it's their right to do that."
That's right, Trent, it is our right, and you are feeling it! In simple terms, the ONLY barrier left for the Senate to pass this bill is YOU. That is why I'm calling for an even greater grassroots uprising than before.
Whether they formally bring the amnesty bill back on Friday, or Monday really doesn't matter. What matters is that they are bringing amnesty back, and it is up to grassroots America to stop them cold!
+ + Action #1: Faxes and Phone Calls
If you have not scheduled faxes in the past few days, do so right now. We must have faxes flooding the Senate every day until AMNESTY IS DEAD. Use our FaxFire system or fax them yourself (info. provided here):
http://www.grassfire.org/19042/offer.asp
After scheduling your faxes, call your two senators.
We've gotten many reports of citizens calling their Senators EVERY DAY, and I want to challenge every member of our team to do the same. Here's a number of KEY talking points:
Your two senators:
- You are disappointed that the Senate is reconsidering the amnesty bill.
- A "yes" vote on cloture is a "yes" vote for amnesty.
- Vote NO on cloture for the Bush-Kennedy Amnesty bill.
Sen. Durbin (202)224-2152
Sen. Obama (202) 224-2854
I'm also asking team members from Mississippi to contact Mr. Lott, to let him know that his constituents who oppose amnesty certainly know where Gulfport is!
Here's his number: 202/224-6253
Or call his district offices: Jackson, 601/965-4644; Gulfport, 228/863-1988; Pascagoula, 228/762-5400; Oxford, 662/234-3774
To recap, AMNESTY IS COMING BACK perhaps as soon as Friday and certainly by next Monday. We've been told the back-room deal cut last week is in motion, and a plan to manipulate Senate rules and tie the hands of Senators opposing the amnesty bill is underway.
YOU AND I are the last line of defense!
Thanks for your help fighting amnesty!
Steve Elliott, President
Grassfire.org
P.S: I've just heard that the AFL-CIO is finally realizing that an amnesty bill would devastate and demoralize their membership. They have come out strongly against this bill!

It's also quite funny to find out that the Republican Amnesty Senators don't seem to be able to handle the concept that they will be scoffed by conservatives when they go against the will of the people! In Republicans Hearing Static From Conservative Radio Hosts, "Vacant Lott" says:
When they're with you, it's great, When they're not, it's not good.
Maybe, with enough pressure from grassroots conservatives, the Republican Amnesty Senators will finally get it. If not, there's always the next election...

CLOTURE FAILS -- This round of Amnesty defeated
Bush-Kennedy Amnesty Bill Update
As reported by Grassfire.org:
The Senate just failed to "invoke cloture" on the Bush-Kennedy amnesty bill for the second time today. The final vote was 45-50.
What does this mean?
We did it! We defeated this round of amnesty!
Since the announcement of this bill a few weeks ago, Grassfire team members sent over 700,000 petitions and faxes to the Senate. When we add in the estimated phone calls, contacts by our team members alone to the Senate far exceeded 1 million!
We have never seen a grassroots response like this -- it was truly unprecedented. Without grassroots pressure, the Senate would have passed this bill weeks ago.
On behalf of our entire team, and on behalf of the entire nation, thank you for taking a stand!
With much appreciation,
Steve Elliott, President
Grassfire.orgP.S. If you listened to the floor speeches after the vote on C-Span, then you know that the battle is not over. The will bring amnesty back -- sooner rather than later. But for tonight, I want to thank you for everything you did to take a stand against this amnesty bill.
P.P.S. I would love to hear your feedback on this victory and our combined grassroots effort. I started a forum discussion on FireSociety.com earlier today that has some lively discussion (and celebrating) going on. Would you post your comments here as well?

Immigration & amnesty ...
A lady wrote the best letter in the Editorials in ages!!
Please read this all the way through and decide if we need to look at things a little differently.Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration. Certain people are angry that the US might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely. Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests.
Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors; I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house).
According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay, you must add me to your family's insurance plan, educate my kids, and provide other benefits to me and to my family (my husband will do your yard work because he too is hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part).
If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my right to be there.
It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm hard-working and honest, um, except for well, you know.
And what a deal it is for me!! I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being an anti-housebreaker. Oh yeah, and I want you to learn my language so you can communicate with me.
Why can't people see how ridiculous this is?! Only in America do we have the freedom to be this stupid. So often people fall victim to the "if it's not in my back yard it doesn't effect me" line of thinking. This editorial brings to light an important analogy of how the Immigration and Amnesty issues effects everyone. Some states are looking to go so far as too give Illeagal aliens such benefits that everyone would want to be one:Becoming Illegal (From a Maryland resident to his senator)
The Honorable Paul S. Sarbanes
309 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington DC, 20510
Dear Senator Sarbanes,
As a native Marylander and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance. I have contacted the Department of Homeland Security in an effort to determine the process for becoming an illegal alien and they referred me to you.
My primary reason for wishing to change my status from U.S. Citizen to illegal alien stem from the bill which was recently passed by the Senate and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill's provisions is accurate, as an illegal alien who has been in the United States for five years, all I need to do to become a citizen is to pay a $2,000 fine and income taxes for three of the last five years. I know a good deal when I see one and I am anxious to get the process started before everyone figures it out.
Simply put, those of us who have been here legally have had to pay taxes every year so I'm excited about the prospect of avoiding two years of taxes in return for paying a $2,000 fine. Is there any way that I can apply to be illegal retroactively? This would yield an excellent result for me and my family because we paid heavy taxes in 2004 and 2005.
Additionally, as an illegal alien I could begin using the local emergency room as my primary health care provider. Once I have stopped paying premiums for medical insurance, my accountant figures I could save almost $10,000 a year. Another benefit in gaining illegal status would be that my daughter would receive preferential treatment relative to her law school applications, as well as "in-state" tuition rates for many colleges throughout the United States for my son.
Lastly, I understand that illegal status would relieve me of the burden of renewing my driver's license and making those burdensome car insurance premiums. This is very important to me given that I still have college age children driving my car.
If you would provide me with an outline of the process to become illegal (retroactively if possible) and copies of the necessary forms, I would be most appreciative. Thank you for your assistance.
Your Loyal Constituent,
Pete McGlaughlin
